SYDIC Partner of SYNAPSE

Co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme, SYNAPSE will engage 2,500 young people, facilitators, and participants from Italy, Spain, Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, Ethiopia, and Malawi.

The SYNAPSE Project partner SYDIC (System Dynamics Italian Chapter) is a non-profit association established in 2015 as the official Italian Chapter of the System Dynamics Society. SYDIC is dedicated to advancing Systems Thinking and System Dynamics methodologies to better understand and address complex societal, organisational, and environmental challenges. The organisation brings together academics, researchers, and professionals committed to developing innovative solutions for complex systems, while promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, capacity building, and evidence-based decision-making.

Their team involved in SYNAPSE Project includes:

Camillo Carlini Administrative Lead

Camillo Carlini is a researcher and consultant specialising in Systems Thinking and System Dynamics, with a background in Computer Science for Management. He has worked extensively in teaching, research, project management and European-funded initiatives, supporting organisations in analysing and managing complex systems.

Within the SYNAPSE Project, Camillo oversees administrative and financial management activities, contributes to project coordination and ensures that project implementation remains aligned with both organisational priorities and the consortium’s strategic objectives.

Eduardo Franco Project Manager

Eduardo Franco is a Research Fellow in Complex Systems Analysis, Modelling and Simulation at the University of São Paulo. Holding a double PhD, he has developed significant international research experience in sustainability, production systems and complex systems modelling.

In his role as Project Manager, Eduardo coordinates project activities, monitors implementation progress and contributes to the scientific and methodological development of the project. His expertise ensures that project outputs are grounded in robust systems thinking approaches while supporting effective collaboration across consortium partners.

Andra Burlacu Communication and Project Assistant

Within the project Andra supports communication and dissemination activities, manages digital content and online platforms, and assists with project coordination, monitoring and reporting to ensure the project’s achievements reach a wide and diverse audience.

When asked why the SYNAPSE Project is important to the organisation, their response was:

“The SYNAPSE Project supports SYDIC’s mission of promoting Systems Thinking and System Dynamics through education and international cooperation. It allows SYDIC to work closely with partners from Europe and Africa, share knowledge, and contribute to the development of learning resources for young people.

The project also reinforces SYDIC’s international partnerships, enabling closer collaboration with organisations across Europe and Africa while advancing research, sustainability, digital transformation, and social innovation. By contributing to this collaborative initiative, SYDIC is helping to build a more connected, inclusive, and resilient learning ecosystem capable of generating long-term societal impact.”
